The Material Girl made a substantial donation Tuesday to aid earthquake victims in the mountainous Abruzzo region of Italy, where a 6.3 temblor early yesterday morning left at least 200 people dead and perhaps 50,000 homeless, E! News has confirmed.

Publicist Liz Rosenberg would not reveal the dollar amount of Madonna’s contribution, but it’s been reported to be around $500,000.

The Ciccones, the hitmaker’s paternal grandparents, lived in the village of Pacentro, (which is in the city of L’Aquila, near the earthquake’s epicenter) until 1919. Nearly 33,000 people were killed in the region in a devastating quake in 1915.I am happy to lend a helping hand to the town that my ancestors are from,” Madonna said in a statement. “My heart goes out to the families that have lost loved ones or their homes.”

The pop icon’s benevolent gesture comes after what must have been an especially trying week for her. On Friday, Malawi’s high court denied her bid to adopt

a 3-year-old girl, citing the country’s mandatory residency policy of 18 to 24 months for people looking to adopt.

Madonna’s camp has appealed the ruling.

Former “Bachelorette” Trista Sutter and her husband Ryan are proud parents of a baby girl, People reports.

According to the magazine, Blakesley Grace was born on Friday, April 3, weighing in at 6 lbs., 2 oz and she is 19 inches long.

She is the first daughter for the couple, who welcomed son, Max, in July 2007.Last December, Trista confirmed the baby news to AccessHollywood.com.

“The news is true. We are expecting a baby girl in April and we are ecstatic!” Trista told Access at the time.

And while the couple waited to find out the sex of their first child until he was born, she added that this time around, they wanted to know ahead of time.

“We didn’t find out that Max was a boy until he arrived, but decided to spoil the surprise this time,” she joked.

Both parents are elated to add a baby girl to their growing family.

“Although we would’ve been just as happy with a second boy, we are very much looking forward to giving Max a little sister!” Trista said.

Trista met Ryan, a firefighter, on ABC’s “The Bachelorette” in 2002 after Trista was the runner-up on “The Bachelor” in 2001.

The couple married in a lavish TV wedding in 2003.

Enjoying a swanky dinner out in Los Angeles, Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony were spotted over at Cecconi’s restaurant last night (March 30).

The “Waiting for Tonight” songstress and her “I Need to Know” crooner hubby looked to be having a marvelous time together as they doted on a fellow diner’s baby, though the little one didn’t seem to enjoy the attention from the celebrities.

This week’s elimination was no surprise on “American Idol,” except the manner in which it came.

Megan Joy seemed to know she was on her way out, and made her last night a memorable one. She flapped and cawed her way to her seat in the bottom three, hammed it up for the cameras throughout the night, and even told Simon Cowell at the top of the show that she didn’t care about his feedback.

Of the five contestants eliminated thus far, she was the least surprised to be sent packing. Given that she had struggled every week, except for the one when she had the flu, it was the expected outcome.

A “relaxing, calm, beautiful place” may not be everyone’s description of Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where the United States holds about 240 prisoners in a detention center that has drawn condemnation from around the world.

But this was the opinion of reigning Miss Universe Dayana Mendoza of Venezuela, who visited the U.S. naval facility in eastern Cuba this month on a trip organized by the United Service Organizations (USO) which supports U.S. troops.

The Guantanamo Bay base, whose presence Cuba’s government has contested as illegal for years, is used by U.S. authorities as a prison camp for foreign terrorism suspects. Critics have condemned it as a symbol of abuses in Washington’s war on terrorism launched after the September 11, 2001, attacks.
